The Twynphony Hopes Foundation hosted a clothing drive fundraiser in collaboration with the Epilepsy Foundation of New England to benefit our school, The Clarke Middle School. The Lexington community pooled together our resources and we collected over 300 bags of clothing, footwear, accessories, backpacks and household fabrics! We hosted an event on Thursday, Nov 11 (Veterans Day) - our wonderful volunteers helped move the bags from our basement into our driveway and this was followed by a pick up by the Epilepsy Foundation. Lex Media was around to cover the event while our volunteers enjoyed a volunteer-appreciation lunch and were presented gift cards for Rancatore's Icecreams.
This experience was a win-win for everyone involved for the following reasons:
· We helped the Epilepsy Foundation, a fellow non-profit by making their route more efficient, saving fuel and being more "green" as they were able to avoid multiple rounds of pickups from individual homes.
· Our community got a chance to de-clutter, recycle and make a difference to a great cause at the same time.
· We helped our environment! Millions of pounds of textiles are dumped into landfills each year and many of those items could have been donated instead. Over 3,200 pounds of textiles were prevented from going into landfills.
· The Epilepsy Foundation reciprocated by helping us raise funds for our wonderful school! They paid us 15 cents per pound which resulted in a payment of $508.65 to our school!
